Continuity check
A review of whether facts, movements and character knowledge remain consistent across a story.
A continuity check follows details that must remain compatible across scenes: injuries, possessions, dates, travel and what each character knows. It also asks whether changes have an explanation within the story.
A timeline and story bible help with this pass. Deliberate contradictions, such as those involving an unreliable narrator, need to be distinguished from mistakes so that planned clues survive revision.
Example
A ring left behind in chapter 4 cannot reappear in chapter 7 without being recovered.
In the workshop
Track one kind of detail per pass rather than relying on memory.
