Editorial style sheet

A reference document recording language, spelling and consistency decisions for a manuscript.

An editorial style sheet records decisions about spelling, capitalization, numbers, language variety and other recurring choices. Editors use it to apply the same decision consistently throughout a manuscript.

For fiction, it may also track names, dates and factual details. It supports editing and proofreading and is separate from a software stylesheet that controls visual formatting.

Example

The sheet records the spelling 'Greyhaven' and the decision to spell out days of the week.

In the workshop

Record a decision as soon as it may recur elsewhere.
