Epistrophe

Repetition of a word or phrase at the end of successive clauses or lines.

Epistrophe repeats the same word or phrase at the ends of successive clauses or lines. The recurring ending can act like a refrain or bring different situations toward a shared conclusion.

Anaphora repeats at the beginning; epistrophe repeats at the end. They can occur together. A short sequence often establishes the pattern without making the entire passage predictable.

Example

She packed for the journey, saved for the journey, stayed awake for the journey.

In the workshop

Read only the clause endings to hear the pattern.
