Refrain
A recurring line or phrase that helps organize a poem or song.
A refrain repeats a phrase or group of lines at intervals in a poem or song. It offers an audible point of return and may link otherwise different stanzas.
The surrounding material can alter the meaning of the repeated words. A hopeful line may later sound like grief or recollection. Variation is possible, though repetition needs to remain recognizable.
Example
Each stanza ends 'We will return to the bridge', first as a promise and later as a memory.
